This is the old fashioned syrup cake that Mama made all the time. It was a favorite.
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cups sugar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup cooking oil
- 1 cup Steen's Cane Syrup
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Your choice of spice: cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg or all three
- 1/2 cup pecans and or raisins (optional)
- 1 cup boiling water
Directions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all the ingredients and add the 1 cup boling water last.
Step 2
Pour into a greased floured 13x9 baking pan. Bake for 25 minutes or do the cake doneness test by inserting a toothpick and it comes out clean.
