Sweet Dough Fig Bars

Sweet dough tarts (pastry stuffed with a sweet filling) are the most popular of the classic sweets enjoyed by Cajuns. This recipe gives a new twist to your basic sweet dough and fig preserves.

Ingredients

  • 1 recipe sweet dough
  • 1 quart fig preserves

Directions

Step 1

Both above recipes can be found on our website.

Step 2

Prepare one recipe of sweet tart dough.

Step 3

Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness and place on a sheet pan.

Step 4

In a food processor or pastry blender, puree the figs.

Step 5

Spread over the dough and bake at 350 degrees for approximately 30 minutes.

Step 6

Cool slightly, then cut into bars.

For another variation, add 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1/2 cup of chopped pecans to your fig puree. Cook for 40 minutes.
