Lemon Lime Sherbet – Sherbert

Instead of the lemon and lime use grape flavored Kool Aid – My Grandma Alice Richard Lange use to make the grape ice cube sherbet when we would visit on Sunday afternoon. Do not use the lemons if using the grape Kool Aid.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart milk
  • 1 package lime Jell-O
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar or 3/4 cup sugar and 3/4 cup Karo Syrup
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • juice of three lemons, or 4 tbsp lemon juice grated
  • grated lemon rind of 1 lemon (no white peel)

Directions

Step 1

Combine boiling water and Jell-O. Add sugar, lemon juice, and lemon rind. Let cool, then add one quart milk slowly stirring constantly.

Step 2

Pour into 2 large refrigerator trays or small Styrofoam cups. Freeze at high temperatures - freezer compartment. Takes about 2 1/2 hours to freeze.

You could add small wooden ice cream spoons in the tray for as fun way to serve.
