Grandma DeMarcy’s Syrup Cake

This is the old fashioned syrup cake that Mama made all the time. It was a favorite.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup cooking oil
  • 1 cup Steen's Cane Syrup
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Your choice of spice: cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg or all three
  • 1/2 cup pecans and or raisins (optional)
  • 1 cup boiling water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all the ingredients and add the 1 cup boling water last.

Step 2

Pour into a greased floured 13x9 baking pan. Bake for 25 minutes or do the cake doneness test by inserting a toothpick and it comes out clean.

This cake keeps exceptionally well in a covered container in the refrigerator.
