Fried Soft Shell Crabs

This is one of my mom’s favorite dishes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour (1 cup flour and I cup cornmeal optional)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 dozen soft shell crabs
  • bread or cracker crumbs (optional)
  • salt & black pepper
  • canola oil

Directions

Step 1

Make flour mixture: mix flour and baking powder

Step 2

Make egg mixture: mix eggs and milk

Step 3

Season whole crab with salt & pepper. Double dip crab in egg mixture, then flour mixture.

OPTIONAL: You can use the cracker or bread crumbs in the second dipping.

Step 4

Place crab gently in oil (either pan fry or deep fat fry) for about 5 minutes or until brown.
