Fried Green Tomato BLT Sandwich

If you like fried green tomatoes, you’ll love them in this sandwich. The medium-size green tomato has a piquant flavor, which makes it excellent for frying, broiling and adding to relishes.

Ingredients

  • 1 large green tomato
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 4 to 5 strips of bacon
  • lettuce
  • bread or buns
  • oil for frying
  • slice of cheese (optional)
  • choice of condiments mustard mayonnaise horseradish
  • Tony Chachere or Cajun seasoning

Directions

Step 1

Heat oil in deep pan. In shallow dish mix flour and seasoning.

Step 2

In separate shallow dish beat the egg. Slice the tomato like you would for a sandwich.

Step 3

Dust the slices in the flour, dredge in egg and back in the flour.

Step 4

When oil is hot, place in tomato slices. Allow to fry until golden brown, flipping if needed. Place on paper towels to cool slightly.

Step 5

Prepare sandwich with lettuce and bacon.

I like to toast my bread and add a slice of cheese. Depending on how large your tomato slices are, one to two slices are enough for the sandwich. Enjoy the other fried tomatoes on the side.
