Classic Chocolate Sauce for Chocolate Bread

Remember the mornings when Momma pulled out the skillet and reached for the Hershey’s Cocoa powder. You knew what she was going to make; you ran to get the Evangeline Maid Bread so you could be the first to get served delicious Chocolate Bread.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup milk (more or less) evaporated milk or regular milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8 slices or more of sliced bread
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, blend the sugar and cocoa powder. Add the milk and butter, stir (whisk) over medium heat until the mixture starts to turn creamy. Dip and coat the slices of bread on both side. Serve Warm.

Step 2

Additional milk may be added for a thinner sauce if preferred.
