Spinach Garden Ring

Ingredients
- 8 ounces thickly sliced deli ham, coarsely chopped
- 1/3 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup finely chopped carrot
- 1 1/2 cup 6 oz shredded Swiss cheese, divided or a finely shredded mozzarella and parmesan mixed
- 1 package 10 oz frozen spinach, thawed and well drained
- 1/3 cup light mayonnaise
- 2 garlic cloves pressed
- 2 packages 8 oz refrigerated crescent rolls
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Chop ham and onion and finely chop the carrot. Grate cheese if not already shredded. In a bowl, combine the ham, onion, carrot, 1-1/4 cups of the cheese, 8-10 ounces of spinach (your choice depending on how much you like spinach), mayonnaise and pressed garlic; mix well.
- Unroll crescent dough and separate into 16 triangles. Arrange triangles, slightly overlapping in a circle on a large round Baking Stone or Pizza Pan with the wide ends 4 inches from edge of baking stone. Points will extend off the edge of the baking stone. Using a rolling pin, roll the wide ends of dough toward the center to create a 5-inch opening.
- Spoon the spinach mixture evenly over dough in a continuous circle. Bring points of triangles up over filling and tuck under dough at center to form a ring. The filling will show but is OK. Sprinkle with remaining cheese.
- Bake 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Common Problems and Solutions
Q: Why is my crescent dough ring falling apart?
A: Make sure the triangles overlap slightly when arranging them in a circle, and tuck the points firmly under the center. The dough should create a continuous ring with no gaps.
Q: Can I prepare this ahead of time?
A: Yes! Assemble the ring completely, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for up to 4 hours before baking. You may need to add 5 minutes to the baking time if starting from cold.
Tips and Techniques
Press as much liquid as possible from the thawed spinach using paper towels or a clean kitchen towel—excess moisture will make the filling runny and the pastry soggy. The visual presentation is part of the appeal, so take time to arrange the triangles evenly around the circle.
