Pan Smothered Mushrooms
The perfect complement to a rib eye with a baked potato and salad. Tender mushrooms and onions smothered in butter with a hint of Tabasco Soy Sauce create a savory side that we’ve come to enjoy with so many dishes.

Ingredients

2 servings
  • 1 container of fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 or 2 pats of margarine or butter
  • 1 medium onion, sliced thin
  • 2 tablespoons Tabasco Soy Sauce
  • Garlic powder, to taste (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. In a heavy skillet over medium heat, melt margarine and add onions.
  2. Stir and cook until the onions have wilted, about 5 minutes. Add the mushrooms, cooking for another 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Garlic powder can be added to enhance the flavor. Add soy sauce, stirring well until heated through. Serve over your meat or as a side.

Tips and Techniques

Don’t rush the mushrooms - cooking them for the full 20 minutes allows them to release their moisture and develop a deeper, richer flavor. High heat will make them rubbery.
