Ham ‘n Bean Soup

Ingredients

  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small bag great northern beans (dried)
  • Ham bone or 1 lb chopped ham
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Step 1

Put all ingredients in a heavy soup pot with enough water to cover all ingredients.

Step 2

Boil on medium heat until beans are tender, usually 4 to 5 hours, checking the level of liquid as it cooks and adding more water if needed. Season to taste with salt and black pepper.

Sometimes I cook up the bean dish the consistency of watery gravy to serve over rice and add fried pork chops to the dish.
