Christmas Eggnog French Toast
If you are like me, you can’t get enough eggnog during the holiday season. Here’s a way to sneak more eggnog in with fluffy croissants or your favorite bread, cinnamon, and a golden buttery griddle.

Ingredients

6 servings
  • 2 cups prepared eggnog
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 6 croissants (or bread of choice)
  • 3 tbsp butter

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. In a shallow bowl, mix the eggnog, cinnamon and egg thoroughly. If using croissants slice lengthwise.
  2. On a griddle or skillet over medium heat, melt one tablespoon of butter. Dip the bread in the batter (making sure to coat all sides), place on the griddle and cook for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes per side or until golden brown. Repeat with the rest of the bread, melting more butter as needed.
  3. Serve immediately with syrup or a sprinkling of powdered sugar.

Common Problems and Solutions

Q: Why is my French toast soggy?

A: Don't oversoak the bread—just dip to coat both sides quickly, especially with croissants which are already buttery and can get waterlogged. Make sure your griddle is hot enough before adding the battered bread.

Q: Can I make this ahead?

A: French toast is best served fresh off the griddle, but you can mix the eggnog batter the night before and refrigerate. You can also keep cooked slices warm in a 200°F oven on a baking sheet while you finish the batch.

Tips and Techniques

Use store-bought eggnog or try our Christmas Eggnog recipe if you want to make it from scratch. Day-old croissants actually work better than fresh ones—they’re slightly drier and soak up the batter without falling apart.
