My husband's mother loved to cooked this cake for her husband and children. I use this cake now as a shortcake for sliced strawberries topped with Cool Whip or iced with chocolate served with a fresh brewed cup of coffee.

Ingredients
2 cups sugar 1 cup margarine or butter
1 cup buttermilk 3 eggs
1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp flavoring-cook's choice vanilla
3 cups flour 1 cup nuts optional

Directions
Mix all ingredients in a large glass bowl and pour into 13"x 9" x 2" loaf cake pan that has been greased and lightly floured. Bake at 350 degrees until done; usually 30-40 min.
