Lemon Cake (Bread) - gāteau de lemo - gāteau de citron
Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs slightly beaten
1 3/4 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup nuts (optional)
1/4 cup lemon juice
grated peel of one lemon
1/4 cup sugar and juice of one lemon for the topping
Directions
Cream the shortening, sugar and eggs. Add the remaining ingredients except the topping ingredients of lemon juice and sugar. Pour into a greased loaf pan; bake at 350 degrees for one hour. While bread is baking, mix the sugar and the juice of one lemon. Remove bread from oven and pour topping over loaf.
