Green beans also known as string beans or pole beans are a traditonal family favorite. They are very familar side dish on the holiday table. It is also a great and tasty dish served over rice.
Ingredients
6 cans green beans drained
5 medium potatoes peeled and quartered
1 large onion chopped
2 tbsp cooking oil
1/2 tsp each salt and pepper to taste
Ham Bits - cut cubed ham or smoked sausage
Directions
In a heavy quart pan, add the oil and onions. Cook until onions are translucent. Add hambits and cook for another 5 minutes stirring constantly. Add green beans cover and cook on low to simmer for 30 minutes. Just before you are almost finished, add potatoes and cook for 20 minutes longer. Serve over rice with fried pork chops, smothered chicken or roasted chicken.
