This is the old fashioned syrup cake that Mama made all the time. It was a favorite.

Ingredients
2 cups flour 1 cups sugar
1 tsp baking soda 1/2 cup cooking oil
1 cup Steen's Cane Syrup 1 egg beaten
1 tsp vanilla Your choice of spice, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg or all three)
1/2 cup pecans and or raisins (optional) 1 cup boiling water

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all the ingredients and add the 1 cup boling water last.

Pour into a greased floured 13x9 baking pan. Bake for 25 minutes or do the cake doneness test by inserting a toothpick and it comes out clean.

This cake keeps exceptionally well in a covered container in the refrigerator.
