These biscuits are really light, fluffy and one of the best tasting Southern recipes for biscuits. They will compete closely with Angel Biscuits.
Ingredients
2 1/4 cup self-rising flour
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 cup butter flavored Crisco
1 egg beaten
2/3 cup buttermilk
1 tbsp butter melted
Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Combine flour and sugar in a large glass bowl and mix well.
Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.
Combine egg and milk and add to flour mixture stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Dough will be sticky. Dust the dough very lightly with flour and knead the dough very gently and lightly with the palms of your hands. Fold over and continue dusting lightly with flour; kneading 13 or 14 times.
Roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with a 2 1/2 inch cutter.
