So do you remember Cracker Jacks? In 1893 according to legend, a unique popcorn, peanuts and molasses confection that was the forerunner to Cracker Jack caramel coated popcorn and peanuts was introduced by F.W. Rueckheim and Brother, at the World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago's first World's Fair. The similar tasting popcorn, Carmel Corn for some reason always seems to taste beter on a cold wintry night. Caramel corn is also a simple snack that is great for any Halloween party. You could add M&M's, pretzels, candy corn and peanuts. The snack is not only colorful but yummy and is a great addition to a table full of enticing and fun food.

Ingredients
2 sticks oleo or butter 1/2 cup white syrup (Karo)
2 cups brown sugar 12 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla 1 tsp butter flavor
1 tsp soda peanuts/pecans (optional)
8 quarts popped pop corn

Directions
Prepare and pop 8 quarts of popcorn; set aside. Omitting the soda and nuts, combine all ingredients in a sauce pan and bring to a boil. Boil for five minutes; add the 1 tsp soda. Pour mixture over corn and nuts and mix well until all corn and nuts are coated evenly. For crisper corn bake one hour in a 250 degree oven stirring occasionally.
