Most people have had dried figs (especially in fig newtons!), but fresh figs are a real treat especially when used in a fig cake - la gāteau de figue!

Ingredients
1 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 cup figs
3 eggs 1 stick butter
1 tsp baking soda 2 tsp baking powder
3 cups flour 1 cup pecans optional
1/2 cup raisins optional

Directions
Cream eggs, sugar and butter. Add flour, one cup at a time. Blend in the baking powder, figs, nuts, raisins, and soda. Pour into a greased and floured 9x13 pan. Bake at cake temperature (350 to 400) for 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Mmm I can smell it now!
