If you want a dessert, why not bread pudding? |
| |
| Ingredients |
| 4 slices of white bread |
4 tbsp sugar |
| 3 1/2 cup milk |
4 eggs, separated |
| 1 tbsp vanilla |
pinch of salt |
| 1/2 stick butter |
raisins, optional |
|
| | | Directions | Break bread into an ovenproof dish. Soften the bread with small amounts of milk. Beat the sugar and egg yolks together in a separate bowl. Add the milk and stir well. Then add vanilla and salt. Pour the milk mixture over the bread. Add the raisins. Cut the stick of butter into chunks and mix in. Place the dish in a pan of water and bake at 300 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick or knife comes out clean.
For a meringue topping, add 2 level tablespoons of sugar a pinch of cream of tartar to each egg white and beat. Spread over the top and bake at 350 degrees until the meringue is golden brown. Serve warm.
