Garber Farms, is located in Iota, and one of the leading Louisiana distributors of sweet potatoes. Garber Farms origins started as a family-owned business selling sweet potatoes in sacks out of the barn and is now a large organization. Garber Farms produces about 700 acres of sweet potatoes per year, which they transport throughout Louisiana, the northeastern and southeastern U.S., Canada, and also to England and France. The U.S. does not import sweet potatoes. Garber Farms is also a sweet potato broker, transporting the vegetable for other farms in the area. The production of sweet potatoes, starts with the March planting and ends with the harvest in September or October.
