| Maw Maw always wondered why her fig cake was always so moist. Read what californiafigs.com reveals on figs: Figs contain a natural humectant -- a chemical that will extend freshness and moistness in baked products. Although considered a fruit, the fig is actually a flower that is inverted into itself. The seeds are drupes, or the real fruit. Figs are the only fruit to fully ripen and semi-dry on the tree.
For many years the fig has been used as a coffee substitute. The fruit contains a proteolytic enzyme that is considered an aid to digestion and is used by the pharmaceutical industry.
And, because of its high alkalinity it has been mentioned as being beneficial to persons wishing to quit smoking. Dried figs were first sold in a commercially manufactured cookie in 1892. Not yet rated |

| One of the simplest and perfect cake frostings. - From 5starchocolate.com : Ever Wonder How Chocolate is made? It all begins on a plantation within 2 degrees of the equator. 1 cacao tree, planted in the shade of a larger tree, will produce 5 pounds of chocolate per year (each seedling takes 5-8 years to mature, so starting a plantation can take a while).
At harvest time, plantation works gather, split and dry the cacao beans until they have reached a moisture content of only 7%. The average harvest requires 400 fermenting trays, 50 long-handled pod whoppers, 25 machetes, and a lot of burlap.
The dried pulp and other debris is removed from the beans. The beans are then sorted, selected and roasted. The outer shell is removed and the nibs are left to be crushed by a mill. The heat generated liquefies the pulp, resulting in what is referred to as “chocolate mass”. This mass is then sweetened and cooled into bricks to be used by chocolatiers like Stephany's Chocolates.

| I came up with this recipe after making the Mississippi Mud Pie desert. I changed some of the ingredients and make a new dessert. My dad was a diabetic so I made it with a sugar free pudding and equal or splenda. But you can use the original recipe. |

| Brown sugar is used commonly in baking and cooking. However we never use the full bag and store only to find next time we use it the sugar is now hard. Crystal Sugar.com has this interesting information. How can brown sugar be stored to prevent hardening? Store brown sugar in a way that allows the product to retain its natural moisture--in its original plastic bag (closed tightly) or in a moisture-proof container. (A good use for your canisters)
If the sugar hardens, let it stand overnight in a sealed jar with a damp paper towel or apple slice. For a quick fix, heat the needed amount in a 250 degree oven for a few minutes, or microwave on low for 1-2 minutes per cup. Use immediately.
