Cakes, Cookies & Candy
Haystack CandyVickie Lege
I had forgotten about this old favorite recipe. When my children were younger this was a fast treat and great for holiday candy. The shoestring potatoes gives this candy its' haystack effect. They are also known as Easy Chocolate Drops or Chip Stick Peanut Candy. Another reader writes: These candies are great for school functions and giving as gifts for Christmas. The recipe can be doubled or tripled. All the kids love chocolate and the butter scotch chips give the candy a tastful addition. Can be done in the microwave or in a double boiler on top of the stove.
No Fail FudgeMs Shirely Thibodeaux
Ever since my son found this recipe on the internet from the Nestle's Chocolate site, this fudge has given me the best comments out of all the fudges I have made. This recipe is great for a no fail fudge recipe.
Steen's Popcorn BallMs Shirley
Sugarcane is a plentiful crop in South Louisiana. So most everyone grew up eating cane syrup. One of the more familiar marketers of this syrup was the Steen's Syrup company in Abbeville, La. This recipe appears on their cans of Steen Cane Syrup.

Pecans and winter days. On those days when you could not go outside and the fire was warm, the household seemed to turn to cooking. What a better way to anyone's stomach than these easy pecan cookies. Great also for stuffing holiday tins.
